The 1763 Moffatt-Ladd House is a key example of a Georgian style mansion and has beautifully maintained formal gardens. Notable items inside the house include 1820s French wallpaper, painted portraits of more than a dozen family members and numerous original furnishings. It was the home of General William Whipple, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, during the American Revolution. The house sits at the waterfront in Portsmouth, just south of North Mill Pond and west across the water from the Portsmouth Naval Base.
