The Colonial Dames House was originally built in 1763 by Captain John Moffat, a trader who made his fortune by selling trees used for ship masts and importing molasses and rum. In the early 20th century, the house was donated to the Colonial Dames of America by Moffat's descendents. Today, the home stands as a fine example of the era's architecture, and is still furnished with furniture built nearly 200 years ago in the Portsmouth area. The home is located northwest of Prescott Park, near the North Mill Waterfront.
